Class 94(1). A machine for strapping packages with steel strip 9 comprises a frame 2 with an aperture 3 for the package and carrying a series of magnets 5, which hold the wire in a loop, and is characterized in that the magnets are constructed as rotatable rollers, the axis of each of which is perpendicular to the plane of the steel strip loop. Each roller may consist of cylindrical permanent magnets facing one another with different poles separated by short axial distances. The rollers may be driven, to feed the strip, by an endless chain 7 from a driving wheel 8 and inclined plates 6 may guide the strip over the rollers.
