Abstract

804,226. Strapping-machines. STRAPPINGS Ltd., and CROUCHER, A. H. Feb. 7, 1957 [Feb. 9, 1956], No. 4099/56. Class 94(1). A wire or strip-entraining track for an automatic or semi-automatic strapping machine comprises in one form, Figs. 1 and 2, a pair of members 1, 2 secured together by a series of bolts 6 and defining a narrow groove 7 through which the wire 8 is projected. The members 1, 2 are formed with a series of bores in staggered relation containing balls 9 which prevent the wire leaving the track while it is being projected, the balls engaging rubber strips 3 accommodated in grooves in the members so that they may yield to allow the wire to be pulled from the track as it is tensioned. In a modification, Fig. 3, the groove defined by the members is wide enough to accommodate a metal strip 10 and the balls 9 are contained in tapered bores which limit their inward movement. In a second form, Fig 4, a further series of staggered balls 11 is provided below the balls 9 to reduce the frictional resistance of the track to the feeding of the wire 8.
