Abstract
878,761. Electric heating elements. THERMEGA Ltd. July 20, 1960, No. 25331/60. Addition to 743,032. Class 39(3). In a modification of the heating element described in the parent Specification in which current was supplied to a helical ribbon heating element 4, Fig. 2, by lead-in wires 1, 2 which pass through a plastic covering 3 on which the helix is wound, the ends of the helical heating element are each connected to one of the wires 1, and 2 and the other free ends of the wires are connected to supply terminals 6, 7, Fig. 3, in series with fuse 8. A further plastic covering 5 may be provided. The plastic covering may be polythene and the heating element may be incorporated in bandages, blankets, carpets and mattresses. In operation local overheating of the element 4 will'cause the plastic material 3 to melt and the element 4 will engage with one or both the cores 1, 2 thus causing the fuse 8 to blow and cut off the supply to the heating element. The plastic material is chosen to have a melting point below the scorching temperature of the textile fabrics employed.
