Abstract

The motor (1) is fed with electrical current, while two shunt heating resistors (2,3) are connected across the supply and a switch (6) permits on/off control of the hair dryer. One pole (7) of the switch is connected to a pole (8) of another switch (9), enabling the heating resistors to be switched in and out of circuit. Pole (8) is permanently connected to the motor. A cut-out is connected between the junction of resistors (2) and (3) and the supply terminal (4). One terminal of the motor is connected to the cut-out, while the other terminal is linked to pole (8) of switch (9). When switches (6) and (9) and the cut-out (10) are closed, heating resistor (2) only is used, giving high motor speed and intense heat. If the cut-out is open, resistance (3) is in series with the motor and with resistance (2) giving less heat and lower motor speed.
