[Also in Groups XXXI, XXXII, and XXXIV] A trolley having castor wheels, the two rear wheels of which may be locked in a fore and aft position (see Group XXXII), is provided with jack yokes 53 which may be operated by pivoting a handle 34 to lift each wheel and the trolley from the ground. The handle 34 may rotate a shaft 37 to which a pair of levers 38 carrying a roller 39 is fastened, the roller engaging in a cam plate 40 attached to a shaft 41 in three splined parts to allow slight relative movement. Levers 42 fastened to the shaft 41 mount a roller 43 which moves upwardly when the lever 34 is operated to engage the jacks and presses against a pair of levers 44 overlapping at their inner ends and pivoting about bearings 45. At their outer ends the levers 44 carry coaxial rollers 46 on opposite sides of spindles 14 around which the castor yokes 15 rotate, so that upward movement of the roller 43 causes the levers 44 to pivot and press the rollers 46 downwardly against bearing plates 47 attached to the spindles 14, thereby moving the jack yokes 53 downwardly to lift the wheels and trolley. When the roller 43 is lowered to disengage the jacks a U-shaped strap 48 attached to the levers 42 bears down upon the levers 44 and lifts the rollers 46 to engage with upper bearing plates 49 by way of the ball race 50, thus lifting the jacks off the ground and setting the trolley upon its wheels. Catches 35 on the lever 34 enable it to be held in either the operative or inoperative position. In another embodiment a container body or pallet provided with legs may be separably mounted on the trolley, and the trolley when wheeled beneath the container may be provided with means for lifting the container from the ground.
