Abstract
878,539. Ignition generators. HALDEX A. B. April 22, 1960 [April 28, 1959], No. 14174/60. Class 35. In a flywheel magneto the stator is provided with separate windings on separate cores for ignition, stop lights, rear lights, and headlights, the tail-light being caused to light when the headlight is used, by an armature reaction effect diverting flux into the tail-light core. Cores 2, 4 carrying windings 3, 5 which supply the headlights and rearlights respectively are adjacent one another, and the former has a larger area and a smaller airgap between the poles of the flywheel than the latter. When the switch 6 in the headlight circuit is " OFF " at 9, core 2 has a much lower reluctance than core 4 and very little flux passes through core 4 and only a small E.M.F. is induced in coil 5. In either the dim-light of full-light position of the switch the increased reluctance of core 2 diverts enough flux into core 4 to light the tail-lamp 8. Two further cores 20, 21 coupled by magnetic pieces 22 carry coils 15, 16 for ignition and braking circuits respectively. The area of core 20 is larger than 21 so that a larger E.M.F. is induced in the ignition circuit than the braking circuit. On depression of switch 19 current is fed to the brake light 18 from coil 16 without affecting the ignition voltage.
