Abstract

878,532. Machines for moulding butter &c. BRECKNELL, DOLMAN & ROGERS Ltd., and LAWSON, C. W. Sept. 12, 1960 [Sept. 23, 1959], No. 32364/59. Addition to 864,051. Class 87(2). The piston 13 of the apparatus of the parent Specification for moulding and dispensing measured quantities of butter &c. is provided with a drive mechanism deriving intermittent motion from the dispensing apparatus. A toothed quadrant 6 is swung to the right during one cycle of the apparatus and left during the next one by a cam 1 driven on spindle 7 at half the speed of the main drive shaft through a follower 2 and a link 5. The quadrant meshes with a gear wheel 8 mounted through a clutch mechanism 16, 19, 20, 21 with a piston drive shaft 9 carrying a pinion 10 at its opposite end, said pinion engaging a rack 11 fixed in the piston 13 on drum 12. With the piston 13 in the forward position, drum 12 starts to revolve, the clutch being disengaged by a cam 29A on the stationary quadrant 6 depressing a follower 28 on a bell-crank 24 operating a push rod 22. The shaft 9 is rotated with the drum so as to maintain the position of the piston in the drum by using rod 22 to clutch flange 14 to the hollow drum spindle through disc 30. Just before the drum comes to rest quadrant 6 turns, roller 28 leaves cam 29A and the clutch is engaged causing the piston to move in the drum through rack and pinion means 10, 11. The movement of the piston is arrested by an adjustable weight control wedge 31 and the clutch is disengaged by a cam (not shown), at the other end of the quadrant.
