Abstract

831,193. Injection moulding machines. WUCHER, R. June 11, 1956 [June 24, 1955 ; Oct. 26, 1955], No. 17987/56. Class 87(2). A rotary table 11, Fig. 1, carries two or more moulds 12 and is bodily movable towards and from an injector 13. When the table is moved towards the injector a mould on the table presses a valve 29 on the injector nozzle to the open position so that injection may take place. After injection the table withdraws (to the left, Fig. 1), the valve 29 closes, the table is rotated to bring another mould into alignment with the nozzle, and the cycle is repeated. The table is carried by rollers 11a on a wheeled support 15 which moves on a base 10 to and from the injector, and rotates about a shaft 14. The injector 13 also is bodily movable on the base 10 and comprises, Fig. 2, a heated cylinder 20 slidably disposed upon a screw 21 which is journalled in the injector but longitudinally fixed therein. The screw is driven by a motor 25 through a clutch 22 and has a channeled diffuser head 26. The screw may rotate at a high speed, e.g. 100-300 r.p.m. The injector operates as follows :- The screw turns and pushes material into the front 27 of the injection cylinder, which is thus urged to the position shown in which a flange 19 thereon abuts a flange on a casing 18. Clutch 22 is then disengaged so that the screw stops, and a mould pushes valve 29 to the open position. Then a pusher rod 16 pushes the injector as a whole (except cylinder 20) to the left, so that the screw acts as a piston and fills the mould. The pusher rod 16 is then automatically returned to the right, the cylinder 20 being withdrawn with the screw 21 by frictional engagement therebetween. Fig. 7, shows a modification in which the injector is stationarily mounted on a base 62 and comprises a cylinder 52 and screw longitudinally fixed in relation to each other, the screw having a grooved diffuser head. The table 63 carries moulds 64 and is rotatable about a bearing 65 on a carriage 66 which runs on rollers 68 to and from the injector. The table rotates on rollers 67 on the carriage. The carriage is moved to and fro by a hand wheel (not shown) through gears 71, 72, crank 73 and link 75. As the carriage is moved away from the injector a ratchet 80 engaging a circular rack 78 on the underside of the table turns the table to align another mould with the injection nozzle 60.
