Abstract
759,081. Moulding coated tablets. HOLROYD & CO., Ltd., J., and STOTT, F. T. March 7, 1955 [April 15, 1954], No. 11095/54. Class 87(2) A tablet core 4 is formed in a die 3 between plungers 7, 8 all mounted in continuously rotating tables. The core is ejected by the plunger 8 into a sleeve 43 on a bracket 33 mounted by means of springs 35, 38 on a plate 30 rotating in synchronism with the moulding machine over a bridge 27. The sleeve is centred with respect to the die by a fork 41 on the bracket which engages a boss 48 during a short period of the rotation of the plate 30. The core is rotated until the fork 41 engages a boss 42 on a rotary table machine for moulding the coating on the core. The sleeve is thus aligned with a die 19, which already contains a layer of powder 52 to form the bottom of the coating, and a cam 26 allows the sleeve 43 to fall into the die under the action of a weight 46. The cam 26 then lifts first the sleeve and then the weight (owing to a. slot 47 in the weight to leave the core in the die. Further coating material is supplied to the die and the whole pressed between plungers 14, 17. The plunger 14 then ejects the coated tablet which is guided by a strip 53 into a take-off shoot (see Fig. 9, not shown). To take a sample of a core. a lever is operated (see Fig. 6, not shown) which closes the take-off shoot and opens an auxiliary shoot, and also causes a member in a cam 23 controlling the plunger 14 to be raised to eject the core before the plunger 17 is lowered, so that the core is not coated.
