Abstract

831,192. injection moulding machines. WTJCHER, R. June 11, 1956 [June 24, 1955 ; Oct. 26, 1955], No. 17986/56. Class 87(2). Apparatus for injection moulding comprises a screw 62, Fig. 8, rotatable within a heated cylinder 63 for feeding and plasticizing material supplied thereto, valve means 66 at the forward end of the cylinder 63, a diffuser head 69 on the screw 62 formed to afford a series of narrow passages 70 through which material is forced by the screw and including means for closing the passages 70 while injection is taking place, and means for effecting relative motion between the screw and the cylinder to effect injection moulding by piston action of the head 69. In Fig. 8, the passages 70 are closed during injection by means of a valve disc 72 slidably carried by a stud 71 secured to the head 69. While the screw 62 is rotating, material fed thereby pushes the valve disc 72 forwardly and passes through holes 73 in the disc 72. The cylinder valve 66 has a central bore 67 and lateral ports 68 and is slidable in a plug 65 in the end of the cylinder 63. The valve 66 is moved to the open position shown by engagement with a mould orifice (not shown). Fig. 5, shows a modified diffuser head 26 having a flap valve 49 pivoted at 50 in front of each peripheral passage 48. In, Fig. 7 (not shown), an intermediate cylinder is arranged between the heated cylinder and screw, the intermediate cylinder being fixed as regards longitudinal movement relative to the screw. Fig. 4 shows an arrangement whereby a two part mould 12, 12a is moved towards an injection cylinder 20 by means of a ram 47. The two parts of the mould are mounted on plates 40, 41 slidably mounted on bars 44, 45 and can be closed by a ram 43 carried by a plate 42. Specification 831,193 is referred to.
