[Also in Group XXIV] A machine for packaging powdered material into packets P, Fig. 1, comprises a continuously rotating distributer plate 2 carrying a number of dispensing screws 8, means for moving the packages P through the machine so that each package remains below a screw 8, and means for controlling the rotation of the screws from the rotary motion of the plate 2. The packages P are carried into and through the machine by a conveyer belt 1. Clutch control. In Figs. 1 and 2 each dispensing screw 8 carries at its upper end a freely mounted pinion 17 that is in continuous mesh with a stationary toothed ring 18, the rotation of any pinion being effective only when an associated electric clutch 16 is energised. For this purpose pick-ups 20, 21 extend from each clutch 16 to slide against some busbars 22, 23. The busbars 22, 23 comprise overlapping sections, the setting of which is adjusted in accordance with the number of revolutions each screw must perform during its dispensing operation. Gearing for conveying intermittent motion. In Figs. 3 and 4 the number of revolutions of the dispensing screws per revolution of the distributer plate 2 is controlled by cams 30, 39. As the distributer plate 2 carrying the dispensing screws 8 rotates, rollers 32 on toothed discs 31 bear against the cam rail 30 and each disc 31 is thereby turned. This rotation is transmitted by teeth 34 to a pinion 35 geared through a free wheel device to a dispensing screw. A second cam rail 39 is used to turn the discs 31 back to their initial angular positions, the free wheel devices allowing this back rotation without a reverse turning motion being performed by the screws 8. To pre-set the revolutions of each dispensing screw, the cam rail 39 is turned about a pivot 40 and as a result the position for the start of a fresh dispensing operation by each toothed disc 31 is modified, whilst the end position of the disc is always left unchanged.
