[Also in Group IX] In order to prevent bobbins from becoming jammed around the opening of an unpartitioned magazine 16, a freeing member 22 is raised by fluid pressure acting on a piston in a cylinder 24 every time a bobbin is to be changed, a nose 37 pushing back a bobbin 41b and allowing a bobbin 41a to drop into the troughed upper surface of the member. The weight of the bobbin depresses a rod 36 relative to the member 22, causing a latch 29 to engage a tooth of a rack 39, thus preventing further movement of the member 22. A control actuated by the bobbin changing apparatus then relieves the pressure in the cylinder 24 whereupon the member 22 is returned to its lowest position by springs 26, placing the bobbin 41a in the mouth of the shoot 20. The magazine 16 can be swivelled away from the shoot for loading with an open-sided container 15, whose open side is finally to lie along a line 50. When the magazine is in its loading position, a bar 12 is moved by a spring 14 into a position blocking the opening. When the magazine is in the position shown, an arm 18 contacts a fixed stop 19 to hold the bar 12 inactive.
