877,744. Grinding. UNGERER, F. Feb. 16, 1960 [March 26, 1959], No. 5436/60. Class 60. A machine for grinding workpieces of circular cross-section, such as rollers and the like, comprises, Fig. 1, a worktable 5 having means for supporting and rotating a workpiece 11 and reciprocated by power longitudinally of the machine (axially of the workpiece), a first grinding unit 1 having a grinding wheel 2 and drive menas therefor, immovable longitudinally of the machine but adjustable laterally of the machine towards and away from the workpiece, and a secondary grinding unit 3 having a grinding wheel 4 and drive means therefor, adjustable longitudinally of the machine and adjustable laterally of the machine towards and away from the workpiece, the arrangement being such that, when the distance between the grinding units and the traverse of the worktable are adjusted to half the length of the workpiece, a workpiece mounted on the worktable may be ground over both halves in one work operation. The worktable 5 has at one end a rotary driving unit 8 and at the other end a rotary driving unit 9 or a non-driven unit 10. In a modification, Fig. 2, the worktable 5 has at its ends rotary driving units 8, 9 and intermediately a double end centre bearing 10a, and two workpieces 12, 13 are ground simultaneously.
