877,954. Planing. WALDRICH G.m.b.H., H. A. March 22, 1960, No. 10173/60. Class 83 (3). A planing machine for smoothing billets comprises a column 2 having a toolholder 18 adjustable radially of a billet on a slide angularly adjustable on a guideway 17 on a slide 15 movable longitudinally on the column. The billet 7 is clamped by hydraulically operated jaws 8 movable transversely of brackets 5 on a table 4 which can be traversed hydraulically at a selected speed. Between the brackets, the billet is supported by rollers 10. To rotate the billet to bring an unmachined portion opposite the tool, it is clamped in a chuck 11 having a driving motor 12. Alternatively, the billet is rotated by rotating the rollers 10. The guideway 17 may be exchanged for one of different radius according to the radius of the billet.
