Abstract

877,720. Mineral-mining machines. MUSCHAMP & CO. Ltd., N.J. Jan. 28, 1958 [Feb. 15, 1957], No. 5170/57. Class 68(1). A control means for the relative slidable adjustment of the jib 1 and jib post 2 of a mineralmining machine. The means consists of an adjusting mechanism, e.g. rack 10 and pinion 11, and an independently operable locking device, e.g. serrated surfaces 26 and 13a on the jib post 1 and on a wedge block 13 of square cross section mounted in the jib. The locking device takes the contracting strain between jib and jib post during normal use thereof. The wedge block 13 is threaded on to a screw 14 mounted for rotational movement only in and extending through the top plate of the jib. The pinion 11 is mounted on a shaft extending up through the top plate. Hexagonal heads of the projecting ends of the screw and shaft allow of rotation thereof.
