Class. 100(4) A type bar machine has means to adjust the impact of all the bars when the case shift is effected and means to adjust the impact of each bar individually in each case shift position.. Depression of a key 19 Fig. 1, couples an element 4 to a constantly rotating shaft, as described in Specification 801,167, to effect printing, the impact force being determined by, the point of uncoupling as stop screws 10 or 11 engage a rod 12. The rod 12, extends across the machine as a universal stop and is mounted between two case shift levers so as to pivot to engage either the screw 10 or the screw 11 upon the operation of a key 52, Fig. 5, which releases a projec'- tion 51a of a lever 47 allowing the tooth 49 of the latter to engage a wheel 50 on the shaft 1 which then drives an eccentric 45 until the lever 47 engages a part 51b to disengage the drive. The eccentric 45 engages a finger 44 of a lever 42 fast on the rod 12 to turn it to a position to be engaged by the stop 11. Release of the key 52 releases the lever 47 from the part 51b and allows the shaft 1 to be engaged to rotate the eccentric 45 to the initial position shown returning the rod 12 to a position to engage the stop 10 again. Screws 10, 11 are adjustable to vary the impact of each type bar individually in either case shift position while in a modification adjustable stops are provided on the bar 12.
