Abstract
877,614. Releasing bombs from aircraft. VICKERS-ARMSTRONGS (AIRCRAFT) Ltd. Aug. 27, 1959 [Sept. 5, 1958], No. 28620/58. Class 9(2). [Also in Group XXV] An attachment suitable for releasing bombs missiles, parachutes and the like comprises a load-suspending member releasably connected to a plunger which is supported on a sealed collapsible liquid-filled container, and means for puncturing the container so that collapse of the container will allow movement of the plunger and consequent disengagement of the load-suspending member. Fig. 1 shows a plunger 131 resting on an oil-filled bellows 11 and supporting through a rod 13 and collets 18 a load-carrying member 17. Release of a spring loaded striker 21 punctures the bellows and releases catches 14; downward movement of the plunger then allows the collets to open and release the member 17. Fig. 2 shows solenoids 26 whose operation releases catches 14 and also releases plungers 27 supporting part of the bellows; internal pressure then punctures the bellows, plunger 131 moves down and collet 18 breaks at 184, releasing the member 17.
