[Also in Group XXX] A continuous griddle comprises an upper endless conveyer A mounted between sprockets 3, 4 carried on shafts 5, 6 and consisting of a succession of plates 13 with a plurality of openended product retaining rings 19 mounted thereon and a lower endless conveyer B which travels parallel to and in a direction opposite to the upper conveyer, transverse guide means 38 being curved round one end of the upper conveyer for transferring the articles to the lower conveyer and heat-producing devices being provided at intervals transversely below the top run of each conveyer. As shown in conveyer A, the plates 13 are sheet metal and are mounted between chains 1, 2 carried on the sprockets 3, 4 and conveyer B, which is similar, comprises plates 22 mounted between endless chains 7, 8 carried on sprockets 9, 10 mounted on shafts 11, 12, the shafts 5 and 11 being driven in opposite directions at the same speed. Plates 13, which have down-turned margins 18, are connected to chains 1, 2 by bracket members 14 which have spacer members 15 secured thereto. The sheet metal circular or rectangular rings 19 are removably secured to plates 13 by lugs 20 and are loaded manually. Plates 22 have one upstanding flange and one down-turned flange and are aligned in their upper path with the plates 13 of conveyer A in their lower path and along part of this path the rings 19 on conveyer A will engage plates 22 of conveyer B after which the conveyers separate and the articles are left on conveyer B. Guides and tracks are provided between the sprockets to support the conveyers in the required paths. The guide plate 38, Fig. 7, which is coaxial with shaft 6 extends along the path of the outer edges of rings 19 but not in contact therewith. In a modification, Fig. 9, a driven transfer belt 40, e.g. of fibre glass or woven wire, travels over guide plate 38 synchronously with the rings 19 and an extension 48 of guide 38 completes the depositing of the articles. Plates 13 and 22 are heated by restricted ribbon flame gas burners 51 in pipes 49. The articles are discharged from the lower conveyer on to a laterally travelling conveyer 36 preferably of the wire rod-type.
