Abstract

876,154. Nap raising. TOMLINSONS (ROCHDALE) Ltd. July 9, 1959 [July 26, 1958], No. 24124/58. Class 42 (1). A fabric brushing device is combined with a textile cutting or shearing machine and comprises a plurality of natural or manufactured teazles mounted for rotation on a bar and set with their longitudinal axes at an angle to the longitudinal axis of the bar. In the arrangement shown teazles 11 are carried in frames 12 mounted on bar 10 such that their axes are inclined approximately 10 degrees to the axis of the bar. The bar 10 is placed on a shearing machine and fabric 14 is passed below the teazles 11 such that the latter are rotated thereby to cause the fibres or nap to be raised. The fabric subsequently passes over the edge 15 adjacent the knife carrying roller 16. The points of the teazles in adjacent rows may be arranged to point in opposite directions, the teazles themselves may be inclined in opposite directions in alternate rows and the angle of inclination may be adjustable.
