709,974. Textile combing machines. TERRELL MACHINE CO. March 13, 1952 [March 22, 1951], No. 6564/52. Class 120(1) A comber half-lap device of the kind comprising a body member having hubs on which the half-lap is mounted for rotation and formed with an arcuate surface on which a combing segment is carried to pass through a lap end, has combing elements arranged in regular, widelyspaced, peripheral rows so that when the device is rotated the whole width of the gap between each of two adjacent rows is traversed successively by elements of one of the two said rows. As shown, a halflap 10 comprises a hub 14 mounting a member 12 to which is secured, as by screws 28 or binding wires or straps, a segment 20 comprising a base member 22 covered with a smooth facing 24 which may be of rubber or plastic material, and elements 26, forwardly inclined at a " pitch angle " P of about 50 degrees, the spacing of which in all directions is more than twice the element size. The member 22 may be of woven fabric material and the elements formed of wire, as in card clothing, and may be formed in sections. The angularity a, the angle P, and the combing element height h are such that the cleaning of the half-lap, as by means of a rotary brush, is facilitated and a normal combing function maintained.
