875,832. Nuclear fuel elements. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY, and GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Feb. 9, 1959 [Feb. 10, 1958], No. 4266/58. Class 39(4). [Also in Group XXII] A metallic fuel member is heat treated, cleansed of any oxide coating, and sealed into a protective sheath. A uranium rod is #- quenched in air, α-annealed in argon, machined, degreased in trichlorethylene, and sheathed. The whole fuel element is then pressurised in CO 2 to improve contact between fuel and sheath. Specification 790,389 is referred to.
