A multi-compartment skeleton crate e.g. for bottles has a base formed by rods 5 also constituting the compartments bases and side walls, which rods 5 depend from a main upper frame the rods 1, 2 of which intersect to define entry mouths to the compartments for the bottles. The rods 5 have portions 7 parallel with the upper frame which form the bases mentioned and upwardly extending portions 6 to position the bottles. The rods may be covered with plastic material.
