Class 106(5) [Also in Groups XXVIII and XXIX] Depression of a flexible diaphram 37, Fig. 2, on an aerosol container, firstly results in closing of the outlet passage 38 in a body 33 and then downward movement of the latter, and hence of a tube 25 connected thereto, whereby a sealing portion 28 is unseated from a rubber or plastic ring 17 and a port 27 through the tube 25 is moved from within the ring 17 into a recess 19 which is open to the fluid under pressure from the container 11 via a tube 23, whereby this fluid flows through the port 27 and tube 25 into a cavity 36 in the body 33. Upon removing pressure from the diaphragm 37 the fluid in the cavity 36 and tube 25 discharges through the outlet passage 38 concomitantly as a spring 30 returns the body 33, tube 25 and portion 28 to the position shown so disconnecting the tube 25 from the recess 19. The cavity may be of relatively small capacity. The diaphragm may be welded to the body or held thereto by a retaining ring or by an inwardly curved part of the body; the diaphragm may be comprised by a deformable part integral with the body. In another form the diaphragm has a depending piston portion which acts as the upper closure member. In another embodiment, an additional spring 72, Fig. 9, is provided, the upper end of which abuts a rubber seal 73 around the outer end of the tube 25; the cavity is formed by a bore 71 and the outlet passage 76 is cut-off from the tube 24 upon depressing the one-piece button 70 so that a face 77 thereof seats on the tube 25. The seal 73 may be replaced by an 'O'-ring in a threaded groove of the button or the spring 72 may be disposed inside the tube 24 and the seal 73 dispensed with. In a further embodiment, the button consists of a body 100, Fig. 12, to which the tube 25 is secured, the body incorporating a bore 101 in which is slidably disposed an operating plunger 102 carrying a closure member 104 that cooperates with a seat 105 to close off the outlet passage 111; the plunger 102 is biased by a spring 106, one end of which bears against a seal ring 107 in the body 100; a pin 108 passes through the latter into a groove 109 in the plunger. The cavity is formed by a bore 103 in the plunger. The container is filled through the tube 25 after which the operating means is placed in position.
