Abstract

875,295. Aircraft engine mountings. ROLLSROYCE Ltd. Oct. 13, 1959 [Nov. 26, 1958], No. 38215/58. Class 4. [Also in Group XXVI] An engine mounting device 18 comprises a mounting ring 26 surrounding the engine 10 and fixed to the engine supporting structure on an aircraft, the ring contacting an annular surface 23 on the engine the annular surface being either convex or concave and the mounting ring surface being either convex or concave so that the forward thrust loads are uniformly distributed on the mounting ring 26. As shown the surface 23 is provided on a flange 22 on the engine, and is convex, and abuts an annular concave surface 25 on the mounting ring 26 which in turn abuts a load carrying member 27. Retaining members 28, fixed to the member 27, receive stop members 29, the surfaces 29b thereof engage in slots 22b provided in axially directed portions 22a of the flange 22. Access doors may be provided in the outer structure for removal of the stops 29 for removal of the engine from the support structure. Mountings 19 at the rear allow for axial expansion of the engine and together with the front mountings prevent radial and torsional movement.. The mating annular surfaces 23, 25 eliminate the necessity for a seal between the engine compressor casing and the downstream end of the air intake duct.
