Abstract

874,919. Balancing; load-handling machines. CRONE & TAYLOR (ENGINEERING) Ltd. Sept. 1, 1959 [June 11, 1958], No. 18595/58. Classes 78 (2) and 78 (3). Apparatus for lowering barrels or other loads into a cellar comprises a pair of rails 11 guiding rollers 12 on a barrel supporting carriage 14a, 14b, a counterweight 15 hanging in bight in a pair of chains 17 which extend from anchorages 17b on the carriage to fixed anchorages 17a, and pass over pairs of sprockets 18, 19, 20, and a band brake 21, 22 operable on the sprockets 18 to control movement of the carriage. The brake is actuated by a lever 23 having a weight 24 which urges it into the " on " position, and a cable 25 is provided to enable the lever to be raised by an operator at ground level a. In operation the counterweight 15 is adjusted to just raise the carriage when it is supporting an empty barrel.
