Abstract
In the dyeing of polyacrylonitrile fibres or foils with basic dyestuffs, improved results are obtained by adding to the dyebath a levelling agent comprising a di-quaternary ammonium compound of the formula:- <FORM:0874033/IV(c)/1> in which R1 and R11 each represents an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical containing 10-18 carbon atoms, R2, R12, R3 and R13 eac represents the same or a different aliphatic hydrocarbon radical, R4, R14 and R5 each represents an alkylene radical and X represents an anion. Dyeing may be effected at the boil or at temperatures above 100 DEG C. under pressure. Examples are given. Specification 849,532 also is referred to.
