Abstract

Nitrogenous fibres, e.g. wool, are dyed from an aqueous bath containing at least one compound of the formula <FORM:0976529/D1-D2/1> wherein R is a radical of a mono- or polyhydric alcohol, amine or amide containing at least one active H atom, x is 1-8, mx is 1-1, 000 and nx is 0-200, and said compound containing oxethylene groups in an amount of from 0-20% by weight of the mol weight of said compound. The radical R may be derived from methanol, ethanol, propanol, ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, glycerol, trimethylolpropane, pentaerythritol, sorbitol, sucrose, methylamine, ethylamine, ethylenediamine, triethanolamine, formamide or acetamide. The said compounds form a two phase liquid system in the aqueous dyebath. The preferred compounds are polypropylene glycols of mol weight 300-3,000. Dyeing may be effected with acid dyes from an acid dyebath which may contain electrolytes followed by fixation in an acid bath or by steaming. Examples are given using a number of different assistants. Specifications 826,479 and 930,429 are referred to.
