Abstract

873,258. Cartons. DIAMOND NATIONAL CORPORATION. June 1, 1959, No. 18680/59. Class 18. A carton formed from the blank shown - in Fig. 1, has a handle 50, 52 formed in a panel 30 that underlies a panel 12 of the erected carton, the handle being pushed through a slit 38 in the panel 12 as shown in Fig. 5. The handle is connected to the panel 30 by a crease line 56 at one end and at the other end has an enlarged portion 58 that engages the inside of the box, Fig. 5. An advantage of this construction is that the top surface of the handle has the same surface finish as the exterior of the carton. Glue is applied in the stippled areas by straight line glueing apparatus. In another construction; Figs. 6- and 12, the handle is of one thickness 63 and secured at each end by crease lines 70, 74, 78. To enable the handle to bow, portions 72, 73 are bent as shown in Fig. 12, which shows the handle in the course of being bowed. In a further embodiment, Fig. 8, a handle of two plies 100, 102 is provided having integral connections 112 and 108, 109 at each end.
