Abstract

873,006. Valves. BARKSDALE, L. S. May 21, 1959 [Feb. 24, 1959], No. 17286/59. Class 135. A multiple-way rotary disc valve for controlling the flow of pressure fluid to and from a piece of operated apparatus comprises a twopart casing 12, 14, Fig. 3, having equally-spaced ports 44, 48, 46A, 46B, Fig. 6, opening into a plane face 20 of the part 14 spaced from and parallel to a plane face 18 of the part 12 to form a valve chamber 16 in which is housed a plane-faced disc 26 rotatably mounted on a shaft 32 to control fluid flow between the ports. The disc is formed with a pair of passages 58 opening at their ends into ports 56 on the face of the disc adjacent the casing face 20 and is spaced with slight clearance from the face 20 and with greater clearance from the face 18. The ports 44, 46A, 46B are fitted with bushes 66 spring-urged into contact with the disc 26 in opposition to a thrust bearing 78 mounted between wear-plates 22, 72 in the clearance between the disc and the face 18. Bolts 120, Fig. 1, having reduced diameter portions secure the parts 12, 14 together and in the event of excessive pressure in the casing the bolts stretch and/or fracture whence an " O " seal ring 114 is blown out of a groove 104 in which it is located. Detent means together with stop means are located within the casing. The detent means comprises a spring-loaded ball 92 engageable in holes 94 in the wear-plate 72 to locate the disc 26 in any one of three operating positions. The stop means comprises a pin 82 carried in the casing part 12 and engageable in a slot 84 in the wear-plate 72 and an arcuate groove 86 in the disc 26. The thrust bearing 78 is encircled by lubricant sealing means 100 and encircles the detent and stop means to pre-lubricate these parts.
