872,317. Joint-making packing. MUCHER, H. Oct. 15, 1958, No. 32961/58. Class 122 (3). [Also in Group XXVIII] A rubber &c. sealing-ring for socket pipe joints comprises a cylindrical sleeve 10 having inner and outer radial flanges 9 and 12, respectively, at one end and at least one lug 17 extending radially outwards of the sleeve. The sleeve is a tight fit on the plain pipe 11, Fig. 5, the flange 9 is compressed between the pipe end and the socket bottom and the flange 12 bears against the socket wall, the lug 17 being located beneath the pipe 11 and serving to centralize it in the socket 13. The space between the socket wall and the pipe is filled with grouting compound. Two or more lugs, that may have different degrees of elasticity and are preferably equally spaced, may be provided.
