Abstract
872,230. Resilient mountings; pneumatic dampers. PIATSCHECK, H. May 13, 1959 [May 27, 1958; Aug. 27, 1958; Dec. 20, 1958], No. 16342/59. Class 108(3). A resilient suspension for an axle bearing &c. comprises a hollow truncated cone 11 Fig. 5 of rubber interposed between generally conical inner and outer members 10, 12 having smoothly curved end surfaces to compress the rubber and increase the spring rate in the higher load ranges. Sealed air cavities 13 may be formed between the rubber and outer member 12 to increase the resilience in the horizontal direction. The section of the cavities may vary to provide required characteristics in the direction of travel or transversely in the direction of the axle. In one example large cavities 16 Fig. 6 are formed on the transverse axis and small cavities 17 on the longitudinal axis. Alternatively the rubber may be cut to elliptical section 18 Fig. 9 to form a tapering annular cavity 11. The cavities may be vented to atmosphere through ports 14 or through manually controllable valve 15 which provide damping.
