<EMI ID=2.1>
<EMI ID=3.1>
<EMI ID=4.1>
<EMI ID=5.1>

<EMI ID=7.1>
<EMI ID=8.1>
il décroît quand le déplacement e croît. L'effort initial, Bo, peut être modifié
<EMI ID=9.1>

Locomotives and other articulated vehicles comprise a main frame, which rests on two or more trucks or bogies by means of articulations or pivots allowing the rotation of these trucks or bogies with respect to
the main frame (in particular for the passage of the vehicle in the curves), the stability of the latter being ensured by elastic lateral supports or balancers.
When it comes to high-speed vehicles, it is also advantageous for the joints or pivots and the balancers to allow the trucks or bogies to move sideways with respect to the main frame, with return forces having to intervene to restore alignment when the cause of the lateral displacements has disappeared.
The currently known connection modes to allow these lateral displacements, use either the return by gravity (using links or inclined planes), or springs or similar devices. These modes of connection only make it possible to obtain a well-determined law of the recall force
depending on the displacement! moreover, those which use a return by gravity, are of complicated and expensive realization and involve intermediate members (cross-pieces dancers) to obtain the return towards the normal position and the stability.
The present invention, J. TROLLUX system, relates to a new mode
connection which, while implementing only simple and inexpensive means of realization, allows to modify at will the law of variation of the return force according to the displacement.
This new mode of connection is essentially characterized in that the articulation between the main frame and the trucks or bogies is produced by means of laterally tilting pivots, these pivots being coupled to springs, or
<EMI ID = 2.1>
a lateral displacement has occurred.
In order to fully describe the invention, reference is made to the accompanying schematic figures, which relate to examples, given without limitation.
<EMI ID = 3.1>
should be considered as forming part of the invention, it being understood that any equivalent arrangements can be used equally well without departing from the scope of the invention.
Fig.l shows an example of tilting pivot according to the invention.
This pivot consists of a rod 1, articulated by a ball joint 2 in the bogie 3
<EMI ID = 4.1>
main 5 are only shown by the corresponding ball joint, cut transversely to the track of the vehicle, the pivot being here assumed in its normal, vertical position. Springs 6 and 7, mounted against the pivot, on either side thereof, supported on the other hand respectively against stops 8 and 9 of the bogie and guided by any suitable devices, tend to keep the pivot 1 in this normal vertical position, these springs giving a positive return force which increases linearly with displacement.
In Fig.2, the pivot is shown, by a single line, in its position corresponding to a lateral displacement, of length e, of the bogie 3 relative to the frame 5. Under these conditions, the load P that the main frame applies at pivot 1, gives rise to a horizontal component:
<EMI ID = 5.1>
The reaction that the springs 6 and 7 apply to the pivot 1, when it tilts as a result of a lateral displacement between bogie or truck and main frame,
<EMI ID = 6.1>
feels due to gravity and which are, with the connection mode according to the invention, directed in the direction of instability, and in addition, on the other hand, to provide the necessary force to return the pivot 1 in its vertical position, that is to say the force necessary to return the truck or bogie and the main frame to their normal alignment and consequently ensure the stability of the link.
Depending on the flexibility of the springs 6 and 7, it will be possible to obtain for the values of this return force, as a function of the lateral displacements e., Of the laws
<EMI ID = 7.1>
ples of such laws; in these figures, the forces are plotted on the ordinate and the lateral displacements on the abscissa; curves A represent the shape of the horizontal components of value F and curves B the reactions of springs 6 and 7, the return force, R, being represented by the difference of the ordinates of curves B and A.
In the case of FIG. 5, the return force R is constant; in that of
<EMI ID = 8.1>
it decreases when the displacement e increases. The initial effort, Bo, can be changed
<EMI ID = 9.1>
by applying an appropriate Initial charge to them.
It can be seen that the application of the connection mode according to the invention has the advantage of achieving, compared with known connection modes, a practically complete elimination of the frictional forces.
In vehicles provided, between the main frame and trucks or bogies, with tilting pivots according to the invention, the lateral balancers can be of any known type, for example of the sliding type, but it will often be advantageous to make them themselves, in accordance with the invention, in the form <EMI ID = 10.1>
tilting joints} in this case, the force exerted by the springs must

by means of a tilting pivot 1 and lateral balancers 10 and 11 produced in the form of tilting joints. Fig.6 is an elevational view, in section through the pivot 1, parallel to the path of the vehicle Fig.7 is a view
