Abstract

935,831. Pneumatic springs. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. Jan. 27, 1960 [Feb. 6, 1959], No. 4204/59. Class 108(3). A pneumatic spring comprises a resilient hollow body 13 Fig. 1 which is formed at one end region as a single or multiple bellows 14 and at the other end region as a rolling lobe 15. The body 13 is connected to the spring members 11, 12 at grooved lips 17, 20 and is supported intermediately of its ends by a rigid guide ring 16 which is fitted over a reduced portion of the body 13 and has regions adapted to support the rolling lobe 15. A peripheral ridge 28 is formed in the region of the lower end and is adapted to engage the inner face of the body 13 to limit the movement of the rolling lobe 15 so that continued further deflections is opposed solely by the bellows section 14. In a modification the body 13 Fig. 4 may be formed into a pair of bellows 14a, 14b with an intermediate ring 36 having support faces adapted to engage portions of the walls. An additional support ring 35 for the bellows portion 14a may also be attached to the support ring 16 for the rolling lobe 15.
