Abstract

1,066,193. Springs; suspension units. MOULTON CONSULTANTS Ltd. Oct. 29, 1964 [Oct. 29, 1962], No. 40751/62. Heading F2S. A coil spring suspension unit comprises a compression spring consisting of a cylindrical rubber body 3 surrounded by a helical steel spring coil 4 and which is accommodated wholly within the innermost of two telescopic sleeves 1, 2, the upper end of the compression spring 3, 4 engaging an abutment 6 on the inner end of a bolt 10 which may be surrounded by a sleeve 13, extends into the upper end of the inner sleeve 1, and is connected to an end cap 11 of the outer sleeve 2. The lower end of the compression spring 3, 4 bears against an end cap 5 for the inner sleeve 1. A rebound spring may be provided to bear against the abutment 6 and against an abutment 12 which preferably provides a bearing for the sleeve 12. The sleeve 2 may be provided, at its lower end, with bearing means which engage the external surface of the inner sleeve 1. Damping is mainly provided by contact between the sleeve 1 and the spring coil 4 and, by the hysteresis effect of the rubber.
