The E-shaped armature 5 is resiliently mounted between two posts 7 which slide in supports 3 and carry the moving contacts 13. As shown in Figs. 2, 3, 4a, the angle end-plates 5a of the armature are attached to a plate 6 having lugs 6a which are held against the ends of the posts 7 by resilient washers 10 retained by screw caps 8. Ball-bearings 11 engage in slots 3a in the supports 3 and slots 7a in the posts, which are biased to the position shown by torsion springs 12. A base-plate 1 carries the core 2 and supports 3, the coil 4 being retained about the centre limb of the core by clips 25. The moving contacts 13 are arranged to bridge pairs of fixed contacts 17a carried by the supports 3. The contacts can be arranged in a number of combinations of normally open and normally closed sets (Figs. 4b and 4c, not shown). The plate 6 also has projections 30, at right-angles to the lugs 6a, which actuate the plungers 31 of auxiliary switches 32. In an alternative arrangement, Figs. 7 and 9, the armature endplates 5a have apertured ends 70 which pass over the ends 61 of the posts 7 and fit into depressions 62a in collars 62. A spring plate 63, held by and rotatable about a pin 64 and located by a projection 65 in a hole 66, engages in notches 61a in the posts 7 to maintain the ends 70 in the depressions 62a. In this arrangement the core 2 is mounted by means of projections or screw heads which engage in four spacers 54 of rubber-like material which engage four studs projecting from the supports 3. Compression springs 58 retain the coil 4 on the cone 2 and bias the armature 5 to the de-energized position. Specification 853,162 is referred to.
