Abstract

A composition suitable for use as a sealing undercoat comprises glue, a white or coloured pigment, bentonite as a thickening agent with or without another thickening agent, e.g. carboxymethyl cellulose, and water. Pigment extenders may also be incorporated. Exemplary compositions include glue, and bentonite, with one or more of titanium dioxide, lithopone, zinc sulphide, china clay and mica, to which suspensions of coloured pigments may be added.
