Abstract
871,175. Extruding. COMPAGNIE DU FILAGE DES METAUX ET DES JOINTS CURTY. Nov. 4, 1958 [Dec. 3, 1957], No. 35447/58. Class 83 (4). An extrusion press particularly for ferrous metals has its die 3 and die holder 3<SP>1</SP> mounted on a transversely movable carrier 7 and a container insert 6 separable from the billet con. tainer 2 is provided to facilitate removal of the discard. After extrusion the container 2 is withdrawn rearwardly from the insert which adheres to the discard, Fig. 1d, which is then severed bv a saw 8. The carrier 7 is then moved transversely by a jack 20 and the discard is removed from the insert 6 which. is in two halves 6a, 6b clamped together by jacks 26, Fig. 6 (not shown). Alternatively the insert is in one piece and the discard is removed by an ejector jack 21, Fig. 5 (not shown), or by a hollow ejector 17, Fig. 3 (not shown). The die and die holder may then be removed into a shoot 28, Fig. 6 (not shown), and a new set inserted by a jack 27. In another embodiment, Fig. 1f (not shown), the discard may be severed between the carrier 7 and die 3. A two-part insert 6a, 6b may be mounted on a two-part carrier 7a, 7b by a two-part support plate 7c, 7d carried by two jacks 13, 14. The carrier may alternatively be a rotary turret. A vitreous lubricant 31, Fig. 1h (not shown), is used during extrusion. An aperture 29 is provided for receiving billets stuck in the container. Specification 717,628 is referred to.
