Abstract

871,159. Arched concrete structures; building blocks. MUGFORD, P. G. April 6, 1959 [Jan. 6, 1958], No. 457/58. Classes 20(4) and 87(1) Arched concrete structures, domes &c., are moulded in situ upon permanent shuttering of rigid foam, e.g. alkyd/isocyanate. The rigid foam may be moulded in the form of sections 1a, Fig. 2, adapted to be abutted and connected together at their curved edges or in segments 1b, Fig. 4, adapted to be connected together end to end to constitute one complete arched section. The abutting edges 1c of the sections or segments may be chamferred to form V-shaped recesses which may be filled with a settable liquified foam filling. The sections or segments may be interconnected by dowel rods or bars 2. The shuttering may be formed by applying the foam in its liquid state over an inner lining of aluminium, steel, building boards, polyvinylchloride or polythene sheet material supported by temporary centering and allowing the liquid foam to set. The rigid foam shuttering may be formed with ducting for electricity, water, &c. services. A fireproofing agent or agents may be incorporated in the foam. Concrete or similar material, e.g., plaster, may be applied both to the inner and outer faces of the shuttering.
