870,354. Thermocouple arrangements. SUPERHEATER CO. Ltd., and RAINBIRD, N. C. March 31, 1960 [Jan. 15, 1959], No. 1530/59. Class 40 (1). To measure the temperature, e.g. of a superheater tube a mineral insulated thermocouple cable 6 is led through a sheath tube 7 welded to the tube or to a further tube 8 butt-welded to the thermocouple tube 1 and through a passage 4 bored in the built-up side 2 of the tube 1. The hot junction 11 is welded in position in the slot 3 milled in the built-up portion which is made of weld material and a sheath 13 which covers the cable between the sheath tube and the built-up portion is welded to the tubes. As an alternative, tube 1 may be an eccentric tube initially and the cable is threaded through an axial hole drilled in the thick wall up to a transverse slot in which the hot junction is welded.
