In a double-walled heat exchange tube, the outer surface of the inner tube 4 is recessed as at 5, the recessed parts being filled with a heat conducting material (unspecified) to form a composite inner tube element in contact with the inner wall of the outer tube 1. The recess 5 is preferably a helix as shown. In a modification the recess is such that the longitudinal crosssection of the tube is of waveform (Fig. 2, not shown).
