Abstract

870,248. Vehicle seats. VAUXHALL MOTORS Ltd. March 16, 1960 [March 17, 1959], No. 9177/59. Class 52(2). [Also in Group XXV] In a seat-back which folds face downwards optionally to form a continuation of the floor of a vehicle, pin and slot pivotal connections are provided at the base of the back so that latch members at the top can engage by a rising and falling movement of the back. As shown, on slamming the back rearwardly, latch pins 1 slide over the humps of strikers 2 having a nylon track surface and seat in depressions therein. Simultaneously, slotted brackets 8 on the back move in relation to fixed pivot pins 3 so that the pins are forced against resiliently urged nylon wedges 5 and thus prevented from rattling while the back is latched. The pins 3 are urged by a tension spring (Figs. 2 and 4, not shown) and the weight of the back towards the ends of slots 4 remote from wedges 5, the downward pressure being sufficient to ensure that the latch members 1, 2 are not accidently disengaged.
