Abstract

869,915. Buttons. SMITH, A. P. R. June 26, 1957 [June 26, 1956], No. 19675/56. Class 43 A button which is formed of at least two separate parts and which comprises a button head A, a shank C one end of which is adapted to pass through a hole in the material to which the button is to be attached and a retaining part which is larger than the shank and which is adapted to engage the material on the opposite side of the latter to the button head and to be connected to the latter by means of the shank wherein at least the shank is formed of thermoplastic material and the arrangement is such that after the parts have been assembled on the material the end of the shank can be softened by the application of heat with enlargement of the end so as to secure the button to the material. The shank C may have a base C<SP>1</SP> which contacts one side of the material and the shank may pass through a distance piece B which has a collar B 1 contacting the other side of the material. The head A has a hole through which passes the end of the stud to which a small flame is applied to enlarge the end and retain the head on the stud. The button head may be extended on one side to dispense with a distance piece. The head may be integral with the shank and have a collar F which contacts one side of the material. A metal or other washer H passes over the stud and contacts the other side of the material. The end of the stud is heated to enlarge it.
