Abstract
869,877. Gas-blast switches. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Oct. 2, 1957 [July 11, 1956], No. 21478/56. Class 38 (5). In an electric traction equipment including overhead current collecting gear 18 connected through an air or gas blast circuit-breaker 16 and a series isolating switch to apparatus within a compartment, the connection through the roof 5 or wall of the compartment is effected by means of a lead-in conductor 8 extending through an insulating pillar 3 and a hole in the roof or wall. The moving contact arm 1 of the isolating switch is carried at one end of the lead-in conductor and is mechanically coupled through the pillar or the conductor to actuating means 26. Fig. 3 shows an arrangement in which the circuit-breaker and isolating switch are mounted on the roof of an electric locomotive or motor coach. In this case the arm 1 is secured to the pillar 3 which is rotatably mounted and coupled to the actuating means 26, the lead-in conductor 8 being fixed or movable with the pillar. In a further arrangement in which the circuit-breaker and isolating switch are mounted within the compartment, the isolating switch arm is mounted on the lower end of the lead-in conductor which is rotatable within a fixed insulating pillar forming one of the supports of the collecting gear, Fig. 4 (not shown).
