Abstract
869,641. Transferring freight containers to and from vehicles. RHEINSTAHL SIEGENER EISENBAHNBEDARF A.G. Feb. 3, 1958 [Feb. 2, 1957], No. 3501/58. Class 78 (4). [Also in Group XXXII] A trailer, or a semi-trailer, for carrying containers provided with rollers, has at least one wheel set 16 (Fig. 1) pivotally connected to the chassis 1 by crank, arms 15, and has also a parallel-link mechanism 27, 28 by which the chassis 1 is connected either to another wheel set or, as shown, to a driving unit 26. This arrangement permits the chassis 1 to be lowered to the ground, and also permits the links 27, 28 to be adjusted, while the chassis 1 is on the ground, for connection to the second wheel set or driving unit. In the arrangement shown the rollers 7 of the container 9 are supported on rails 4 carried by a turntable from the chassis 1. The rails 4 may be tipped, as shown in Fig. 5, by a ram 36, and a further ram 12, which may be mounted on a frame independently rotatable about the axis of the turntable, or which may be carried by a universal mounting 11 (Fig. 1) on the turntable, serves to move the containers on to and off the rails 4. Movement of the links 27, 28 is by a ram 19, and movement of the crank arms 15 is by a ram 19. An auxiliary wheel 30 supports the driving unit 26 when it is disconnected from the semi-trailer. Stops 34 engage recesses 35 in the rails 4 to lock the turntable when the rails are lowered.
