Abstract

1500728 Trailer vehicles R GRACE and Y J E GRACE 30 Oct 1975 [8 Jan 1975] 703/75 Heading B7B A trailer unit is convertible between two alternative configurations for transit of goods thereon, the first configuration (Fig. 1) providing an inclined goods-supporting surface 18 and the second configuration (Fig. 4) providing two substantially horizontal goods-supporting surfaces 20 and 21 in different planes. A towing portion 4, for attachment to a fifth wheel coupling on a towing vehicle 10, provides a substantially horizontal surface and is attached to a first part of the inclined surface 18 by a first hinge arrangement 28. The first part is joined to a second part of the inclined surface 18 at 23 by a second hinge arrangement 33, permitting the first part to pivot upwardly into alignment with portion 4 and the second part to pivot downwardly about a pivot 30 into the second configuration. Alternatively, Fig. 7 (not shown), the entire inclined surface may pivot into a horizontal position. The first configuration is for supporting large vehicles such as caravans 19 or boats; the second configuration is for smaller goods accommodated in containers 22 or on pallets. Manual or powered means may be employed for conversion between configurations.
