869,447. Mechanical calculating-apparatus. ELECTRO - CONTROL - AUTOMATIC G.m.b.H. May 5, 1959 [May 6, 1958], No. 15344/59. Class 106 (1). Apparatus for the remote electrical control of a calculating machine comprises electromagnetic control means adapted to limit the movement of differential actuators normally controlled by keys. As described, for transmission of values from a first calculating machine I, Fig. 2, to a second calculating machine II, Fig. 3, each machine, Fig. 1, has a member 10 attached to each differential actuator 31. Each member 10 has a contact bridge 13 having wipers 36 adapted to move over contacts 0<SP>1</SP>-9<SP>1</SP> and 0<SP>2</SP>-9<SP>2</SP>, Figs. 2 and 3. The contacts 0<SP>1</SP>-9<SP>1</SP> are connected across a potential divider, Fig. 4, to give successively increasing incremental potentials. The contacts 0<SP>2</SP>-9<SP>2</SP> are connected to electromagnets 20-29 having cores 11 which normally project into the path of travel of the members 10. The machine II is prepared for reception by opening a contact 16<SP>2</SP>. If, for example, the digit 7 is introduced in the machine I, Fig. 2, the actuator 31 for that denomination, when released moves with its contact bridge 13 up to the pair of contacts 7<SP>1</SP>-7<SP>2</SP>, Fig. 2, the coils 20-27 being energized over a contact 16<SP>1</SP> as the bridge 13 passes over the associated contacts, so that the corresponding cores do not impede the movement of the bridge 13. The potential for the digit 7 is transmitted via the contact bridge 13 and circuit 15<SP>1</SP> to the input circuit 14<SP>2</SP> of the machine II. The member 10 of the machine II, when released moves up to the contacts 7<SP>1</SP>-7<SP>2</SP> since the coils 20-26 are energized due to the potential difference between the circuit 14<SP>2</SP> and the contacts 0<SP>1</SP>-6<SP>1</SP>. The coil 27, however, is not energized and its core 11 stops further movement of the member 10 and actuator 31. The digit 7 is thus introduced into the machine II. Transmission in the opposite direction may be effected by closing the switch 16<SP>2</SP> and opening a switch 161.
