Abstract
Resinous polyquaternary compounds are produced by a process in which a monohalogenated tertiary amine of the general formula: <FORM:0869423/IV (a)/1> wherein R1 and R2 denote similar or different hydrocarbon radicals or R1 and R2 together with the nitrogen atom and possibly another hetero atom form a heterocyclic radical, R3 denotes a hydrocarbon radical which may contain one or more heteroatoms and X denotes a halogen atom is contacted with water, preferably with stirring and warming, in an amount insufficient to form a homogeneous system with the amine. The products are employed in aqueous solution as after-treatment agents for dyed materials (see Group IV(c)). The monovalent hydrocarbon radicals specified include alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl and aralkyl radicals and heteocyclic radicals specified include pyrrolidone, piperidine and hexamethylene imine. Among specific products mentioned are those prepared from diethylchlorethylamine, N-chlorethyl hexamethylene imine, the chlorethyl derivatives of morpholine, piperidine, pyrrolidine and ethyl hexahydroaniline, di-isobutyl-chloroethylamine and b -chloro-b 1-diethylamino-diethyl ether.ALSO:A process for the production of polyquaternary compounds is characterised in that a monohalogenated tertiary amine of the general formula: <FORM:0869423/IV (b)/1> wherein R1 and R2 denote similar or different hydrocarbon radicals, or R1 and R2 together with the nitrogen atom and possibly another hetero atom form a heterocyclic radical, R3 denotes a hydrocarbon radical which may contain one or more heteroatoms and X denotes a halogen atom is contacted with water, preferably with stirring, and warming, in an amount insufficient to form a homogeneous system with the amine. The products are employed in aqueous solution as after-treatment agents for dyed materials (see Group IV(c)). The monovalent hydrocarbon radicals specified include alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl and aralkyl radicals and heterocyclic radicals specified include pyrrolidine, piperidine and hexamethylene imine. Among the products specified are those prepared from diethylchloroethylamine, N-chloroethyl hexamethylene imine, the chlorethyl derivatives of morpholine, piperidine, pyrralidine and ethyl hexahydroaniline, di-iso-butyl-chloroethylamine and b -chloro-b 1-diethylamino-diethyl ether.ALSO:Cellulosic materials dyed with direct dyestuffs, are after-treated with polyquaternary compounds produced by contacting with water in an amount insufficient to form a homogeneous system a mono-halogenated tertiary amine of the general formula:- <FORM:0869423/IV(c)/1> wherein R1 and R2 denote similar or different hydrocarbon radicals, or R1 and R2 together with the nitrogen atom and possibly another hetero atom form a heterocyclic radical, R3 denotes a hydrocarbon radical which may contain one or more hetero-atoms and X denotes a halogen atom (see Groups IV(a) and IV(b)). The after-treatment agents may be employed in aqueous solutions, optionally together with metal compounds used for the after-treatment of direct dyeings, e.g. with copper sulphate or water soluble complex copper salts.
