Abstract

869,054. Roller bearings. SCHAEFFLER, W., and SCHAEFFLER, G., [trading as INDUSTRIEWERK SCHAEFFLER, OHG.]. July 31, 1959 [Aug. 6, 1958], No. 26371/59. Addition to 867,683. Class 12 (1). A needle roller bearing comprises a hardened metal race consisting of a sleeve 1. having radial end rims 2, 3, a plurality of circumferentiallyspaced bearing-needles 1, and a radially split cylindrical cage 4. The cage may comprise an end ring having axial spacer members extending between the needles or, alternatively, two axially-spaced end-rings connected by spacing- members. The cage is of natural or synthetic polymeric or resinous material and is formed with a radial slit 7 which may pass through the end ring and an axial spacer member, or, alternatively, through the end ring only. In a modification, shown in Fig. 4, the cage has two diametrically-opposed slits 20 in each of which there is disposed a cylindrical needle 21 having a length greater than that of the needles 19.
