Abstract

1,234,988. Needle roller bearing. NADELLA, and A. PITNER. 5 July, 1968 [6 July, 1967], No. 32210/68. Heading F2A. A shaft 1 is fixed axially in a needle roller bearing by means of a radial face 4 carried by one of the raceways 6 acting as an axial abutment in one direction for a radial face 2a carried by the shaft (either directly or through interposed elements, e.g. the needles) and in the other direction by means of a washer 2 held stationary relative to one of the races arranged between a radial face 2b of the shaft and the radial face of a bore in which the bearing raceway is received. In one embodiment (Fig. 1), the shaft 1 is provided with a shoulder having a face 2a which abuts one end of the needles 3 which are axially retained at their other end by a radial flange 4 formed on the outer race 6 which is located in the bore 7 of, for example, a pulley or gear-wheel 8. One end of the bore is provided with a radial face 9 against which abuts a washer 11 whose other face 11b bears against the face 2b. The washer 11 is prevented from rotating by tabs 12 penetrating the bore 7. In alternative embodiments a radial face on the shaft bears directly on the radial face carried by the raceway (Figs. 2 and 5, not shown).
