Abstract
848,745. Roller bearings. SCHAEFFLER, W., and SCHAEFFLER, G., [trading as INDUSTRIEWERK SCHAEFFLER o.HG.]. Oct. 22, 1958, No. 33870/58. Class 12 (1). An axial thrust needle bearing comprises a race ring 16, Fig. 3, a cage 12 formed with a plurality of radially extending apertures for accommodating needles, the apertures having a width less than the diameter of the needles, and means connecting the race ring 16 and cage 12 together to form a unit which retains the needles. As shown in Fig. 3, the connecting means comprises an annular projection 13 on the cage which engages a flanged portion 15 of the race ring 16. Fig. 4 shows a modified form of this arrangement, the inner ring 25 of the thin cage 22 being guided by the end face 25 of an inner flange 18 on the race ring 17. In another modification, a cage 30, Fig. 5, has an axially extending flange 29 provided with a portion 28 which embraces an annular projection 27 on the race ring 26. The outer race may be flanged to provide an outer abutment surface 42, Fig. 6, and a lubricant space 44. The cage may have an inner locating flange 48, Fig. 7. In a further modification, the cage has flanges 62, 63, Fig. 9, which embrace portions 59, 61 of the race 57. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 10, only an inner flange 70 embraces a portion 69 of the race ring.
